On Point Kennels On Point Kennels - Home

Whether you desire a steadfast, four-legged hunting companion with keenly-disciplined instincts, or dream of a big winner in regional and national field trial competitions, On Point Kennels consistently begins with an honest and thorough evaluation of your dog, its natural abilities, and its potential for achievement. Your dog will receive regular instruction using simple, proven training techniques, as well as daily, individual attention, and care. Rest assured, our philosophy never includes harsh mistreatment of your animal.

While we require you to provide a health certificate for your dog before drop-off, in turn, we always call in professional veterinary care for a sick or injured animal as soon as it is needed. Additionally, all dogs in our training programs are wormed monthly. Finally, at all levels of training, you may expect regular progress reports, and prompt response to your questions or concerns.

Visits with your dog are encouraged, but by appointment only, and after an initial 30-day period of placement.

PUPPY PROGRAM Our Puppy Program consists of socialization, honing natural instincts, and plenty of supervised play designed to get young dogs excited about birds!

GUN DOG PROGRAM Dogs aged 6 months and older are eligible for the Gun Dog Program, and will learn in a variety of areas, from yard work to handling. This is where dogs learn the basics (such as obeying voice and whistle commands), as well as more advanced skills (like the introduction of live birds, holding point, and backing to honor another dog’s point).

RETRIEVING PROGRAM Dogs in the Retrieving Program will differ in terms of the time it takes to teach them proper retrieval. On Point Kennels will regularly consult with you to discuss expectations.

FIELD TRIAL TRAINING PROGRAM On Point Kennels will hold both Summer Camp and Winter Training sessions, as well as transport to, the oversight of, and handling at various competitions. If your dog is in training for competition, a Field Trial Training Program will be specifically tailored to your goals for your animal, and to the dog’s stage of development and readiness. Please contact On Point’s Tim Thaden directly for more information about what this level of training entails.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING Your furry family member learns basic commands designed to keep him safe, such as, “Whoa,” “Sit,” “Stay,” and “Come.” This service is open to any breed of dog, and includes training you to work with your newly obedient animal.

Headed out for a month’s vacation, or simply called away on two days of unexpected business mid-week? On Point Kennels will happily board your dog while you’re gone, for a reasonable daily charge.

On Point Kennels charges an industry-competitive and affordable monthly fee to board, care for, feed, and train both Hunt Dogs and Field Trial Dogs, to be paid in advance. Competition entry fees and travel expenses are predetermined per event, billed to dog owners (after mutual agreement to compete), and must be paid prior to the trial. On Point Kennels prefers to err on the side of caution when it comes to the health and well-being of your dog. Professional veterinary care is quickly rendered as needs for medical attention arise. You will always be promptly informed as to your dog’s condition, diagnosis, and prognosis during any sickness or injury. Standard practice within the industry is to bill medical and other out-of-pocket expenses back to an animal’s owner – whether hunter, competitor, or furry family member.
